My brother-in-law first recommended this route to me years ago, and it was as great as he suggested.
Located West of Redding CA, this route connects CA-299 with CA-36 and has great twisties, rising over a pass and back down the other side. I parked at the Douglas City Store and pulled the bike out of the trailer just for this 24 mile ride to Hayfork… and it was worth it. Multiple wildfires in the area made parts of it too smoky for pictures, but the ride alone was worth it. I finished with a big smile.
I was informed by some locals that CA-3 to the north of CA-299 is also beautiful but a little less twisty.
