New River Gorge in West Virginia is one of those parks that is best experienced on a motorcycle rather than a car because the soaring height of the bridge is hard to appreciate with a roof over your head. When you drive up and down the narrow, twisty road to the river you can appreciate the accomplishment as well as the beauty of the bridge.
If the big trucks had to drive this steep and narrow 2-way road at night in snow, I’m amazed that any of them made it.
I still think this should have been a national monument rather than a park, but I can see arguments for both sides.
