Shenandoah (VA)

The Shenandoah National Park is built around the Skyline Drive(the northern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway) which runs 105 miles along the crest of the mountains with 75 scenic overlooks.

It is also the only national park visitor center to make me angry with the way the park was created. It seems to celebrate the dishonesty and evil intentions of people like Miriam Sizer. Hired as a summer school teacher in 1929, she invited two sociologists to ‘study’ her students. They then ‘hired’ Miriam to gather data and they used that data to create the false “hillbilly” stereotype in a published report that then became the basis for determining the fate of those long-time residents. Miriam then parlayed that into a National Park Service job to “gather more data”, and then into a position managing their finances and forced relocation.       The Face Of Evil.

Skyline Drive is beautiful, even though some of the “overlooks” have trees blocking the view. There are still plenty of amazing views.
